The 18ICSMGE was held successfully on 2-6 September 2013 in Paris. The conference attracted more than two thousand participants. Two days were devoted to theme lectures The Terzaghi oration was delivered by S. Lacasse from Norway, Ishihara lecture by G. Gazetas from Greece, Menard lecture by JL.Briaud from USA, Bishop lecture by R. Jardine from UK, Kerisel lecture by G. Calabresi from Italy, McClelland lecture by M. Randolph from Australia, Kerry Rowe lecture by C. Shackelford of USA, and Schofield lecture by M. Bolton of UK. There was a report and presentations from the iYGEC and a forum on Research, Innovation and Practice. Ten papers were submitted by SEAGS and accepted by the conference organizing committee. There were good participation and representation from SEAGS and AGSSEA members. A Gala dinner was held on 4 September 2013.
The ISSMGE held its Council meeting on 1 September 2013 and during that meeting the Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS) was accepted as a direct member of the ISSMGE. SEAGS has been well accepted as an incubator for the geotechnical societies in Southeast Asia to become direct member of ISSMGE. Credit goes to the Founding President Dr Za-Chieh Moh for his vision in the formation of SEAGS in 1967 and the subsequent formation of Association of Geotechnical Societies in Southeast Asia (AGSSEA) in 2007 for which he is the Hon. Founding Chairman. SEAGS is the driving force in the production of the SEAGS-AGSSEA Journal.
