Advocating Women In Construction

Seymour Whyte is focusing on increasing gender diversity across the business.

In addition to our annual regulatory requirements to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, our commitment to diversity is demonstrated through approved policies and strategies to help promote and foster inclusive work practices. These policies have set the foundation and future of our business, as an organisation committed to achieving the following measurable objectives:

  • Deliver equitable remuneration structures for men and women at each job grade
  • Improve the retention of women across the Group
  • Increase site based and senior management female representation
  • Increase the percentage of women who return to work from maternity leave

Seymour Whyte Visiting Scholar Program

To support our commitment to industry participation and diversity, Seymour Whyte entered into a three year strategic partnership with the University of Queensland that aims to engage, attract and retain more women into civil construction and engineering. The unique program, known as The Seymour Whyte Visiting Scholar Program, will feature prominently across the university and publicly in October 2014.

The University of Queensland is delighted to host Professor Sarah Springman as the 2014 Seymour Whyte Visiting Scholar. Professor Springman has managed to combine a passion for international sporting competition with a distinguished engineering career. A civil engineer by training, she started out working on the design and construction of dams in the Pacific, spent time at Cambridge as a young academic before joining the respected civil and environmental engineering departments at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. In July of this year, Professor Springman became the new Rector of ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
