From JGS: Towhata Becomes President of JGS

TowhataTowhata 1

On behalf of the Japanese Geotechnical Society, it is my pleasure to inform you that Professor Ikuo Towhata (University of Tokyo) was elected as the new President of JGS until June 2016, succeeding the 2-year presidency of Dr Toru Sueoka (Taisei Corporation). Let me use the occasion to introduce myself as well. My name is Takeshi Katsumi, Professor at Kyoto University and, as Dr. Yoichi Watabe, Past Secretaryof JGS, kindly mentioned in a previous e-mail, I have been assigned to be the new International Secretary of JGS.

We will continue to work hard on the organization of the Fifteenth Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering – 15ARC, which will be held in Fukuoka in November 2015. Contributions kindly provided by your Member Societies will be necessary to make this conference a great success.

Let me know if you have any inquiry, and I will thank you very much for your great contributions.

Best wishes,

Takeshi Katsumi
Secretary of JGS
