Brief CV of Ir. Kenny Yee
Ir. Kenny Yee is the Honorary Secretary-General of the Association of Geotechnical Societies in Southeast Asia (AGSSEA), member of the General Committee of the Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society (SEAGS), member of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). He is a member of the Technical Committee TC-211 on Ground Improvement for ISSMGE and also a committee member of the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division of IEM. He is also a member of the Malaysian Geotechnical Society (MGS). He is a registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with the Board of Engineers,
Malaysia (BEM).
Ir. Kenny Yee served as the Chairman of the Malaysian Standards Drafting Committee MS-1314 on Precast Concrete Piles under the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM). He was also a member of the Technical Committee Working Group 7 for Drafting of Geotechnical Specifications under the Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM). He was an excomm member of the Steering Committee for the Improvement of Site Investigation under the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB), committee member of the Steering Sub-committee on Site Investigation Standards and Contract Documents for CIDB, member of the Technical Committee on Preparation of Geoguides under Technical Committee 5 for REAM and committee member of the Steering Group on Soft Soil Engineering Research Centre (SSERP) for Curtin University of Technology, Miri Campus. He was the past chairman and advisor of the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division of IEM.
Ir. Kenny Yee graduated from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia in 1984. He worked for Randwick Council in Sydney before returning home to join Lankhorst Menard in 1985 as Geotechnical Design Engineer. Menard is a ground improvement specialist contractor and a subsidiary of Soletanche Freyssinet Group (part of VINCI – the world’s largest integrated concession and construction group) based in France. In 1994, he founded Menard Geosystems in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as the operating office for Southeast Asia region. In 2012, he expanded the regional office in Kuala Lumpur to cover Asia under Menard Asia. In December 2013, he announced his retirement from Menard after serving 28 years with the company as Geotechnical Design Engineer, Site Engineer, Project Manager, General Manager and Director of the company. His last position was Regional Director of Menard Asia.
Ir. Kenny Yee has published more than 65 technical papers on geotechnical engineering in local and overseas conferences, seminars and journals. He has co-authored a keynote paper for the 16th Southeast Asian Geotechnical Conference in Kuala Lumpur in 2007, authored and delivered a special theme paper for the Sustainable Economic Development Conference in Kuala Lumpur in 2009, co-authored and delivered a keynote paper at the International Symposium on Ground Improvement Technologies and Case Histories in
Singapore in 2009, authored and delivered a keynote lecture on Ground Improvement: Innovation and Sustainability in Vietnam for their 50th Anniversary of the Vietnamese Geotechnical Society in 2010, authored and delivered a keynote lecture at the International Geotechnical Engineering Conference in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 2011 and authored and delivered an invited theme lecture at the International Conference on
Ground Improvement and Ground Control in Wollongong, Australia in 2012. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious Tan Sri Haji Yusoff Award from the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia for outstanding technical paper published in conferences.
Ir. Kenny Yee is in the panel of invited lecturers for IEM’s professional short courses in Geotechnical Engineering. His specialist topic is on Ground Improvement and he has conducted short courses in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang, Johor, Kuala Terengganu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu since 2005. In 2013, he was invited to the Regional Touring Geotechnical Engineering Short Courses in Vietnam and Thailand for a series of lectures together with Prof. Jean L. Briaud (Texas A&M University, USA), Prof. Charles Ng (Hong Kong University of Science & Technology), Prof. Dennes Bergado (Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand) and Dr. Ooi Teik Aun (President of SEAGS).
Ir. Kenny Yee is one of the Editors for the SEAGS-AGSSEA Newsletters. He was the Chief Editor for the Conference Proceedings of the 16th Southeast Asian Geotechnical Conference (16SEAGC) in Kuala Lumpur. Also, he has served in various organising committees such as Treasurer and Organizing Committee for the Malaysian Geotechnical Conference (MGC) in 2004 in Kuala Lumpur, Secretary of Scientific Papers Committee for the 16th Southeast Asian Geotechnical Conference in 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, Organizing Committee for the International Symposium on Ground Improvement Technologies and Case Histories in 2009 in Singapore, International Advisory Committee for the Vietnam Geotechnical Conference in 2010 in Vietnam, International Advisory Committee for the Young Geotechnical Engineers’ Conference in 2010 in Taiwan, Organizing Committee for the 18th Southeast Asian Geotechnical Conference in 2012 in Singapore and International Advisory Committee for the International Symposium on Advances in Foundation Engineering in 2013 in Singapore. He has been invited to be in the Scientific Committee of the International Symposium for the 60th Anniversary of the Pressuremeter (ISP7) in 2015 in Hammamet, Tunisia and Organizing Committee for the 19th Southeast Asian Geotechnical Conference and 2nd AGSSEA Conference in
2016 in Vietnam.
