A Message from the Editor

Dear Readers,

The annual general meeting and the annual conference of SLGS was held on 30th September At the ICTAD Auditorium. The theme of the annual conference 2013 was “Geotechnics for Infrastructure Development” and three presentations on Geotechnical Engineering applications in infrastructure development were presented. The abstracts of the presentations are given in page no 4 and 5 of the Newsletter.

In addition, in page 1 and 2, Prof. T. A. Peiris share his experience after attending a workshop on landslide and debris flow monitoring in China.

Dr. Asiri Karunawardhana presents an article on ISSMGE International Conference, which he attended in Paris.

Prof. Lal Tennekoon is one of the Senior Geotechnical Academic together with late Prof. Thurairajah and Dr. G.P. Karunaratna contributed to the early development of Geotechnics in Sri Lanka. Other notable academics are Profs. Nimal Seneviratna and Kulathilake also made commendable contributions.

Eng K.S. Senanayake and several others at NBRO also contributed a lot. The other notable Geotechnical personalities are in the picture.
