Prof. Zhou Yingxin: VP for ISRM (Asia)

Prof. Zhou Yingxin in SapparoDr. Zhou is Head Engineering (Underground Facilities) with the Defence Science & Technology Agency (DSTA), and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

Dr. Zhou has extensive experience in R&D, engineering, and teaching in the area of rock mechanics, rock engineering and underground space technology, and has played leading roles in several major pioneering rock engineering and research projects in Singapore.

Dr. Zhou is currently Vice President for Asia of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM), Vice President of the Associated research Centers for the Urban Underground Space (ACUUS), and a member of the Steering Board for the ITA Committee on Underground Space (ITACUS). He chaired the ISRM Commission on Rock Dynamics from 2008 to 2011 and was congress co-chair for the very successful 12th ISRM International Congress on Rock Mechanics held Oct 2011, Beijing, China, and was organising Chair of the 13th World Conference of ACUUS held in Singapore in Nov 2012.

Dr. Zhou serves as a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Tunnelling & Underground Space Technology and the International Journal of Mining and Mineral Engineering. He has more than 100 technical publications in professional journals and conferences, and six edited books as editor or co-editor covering topics on rock mechanics, rock dynamics, and underground space use.

Dr. Zhou obtained his PhD in Mining Engineering from Virginia Tech, USA, in 1988.
