Theoretical soil and rock mechanics; foundation design; geotechnical construction; reliability in geotechnical engineering; tunnels and underground excavations, earth and rockfill dams.

MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS

Reliability and risk in Geotechnical Engineering; behaviour of partially saturated soils; expansive soils and rocks; numerical analysis of geotechnical problems (soils and rocks); field measurements and geotechnical backnalysis; slope stability; earth and rockfill dams.

PUBLICATIONS

Over 450 papers published in National and International Symposia, specialized research books and learned journals.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Over 200 hundred consulting jobs in Spain and abroad involving deep excavations, nuclear power stations, diaphragm walls, ground improvement techniques, design of shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, underpinning of structures, site investigation reports, breakwaters, concrete and earth dams, tunnels, underground nuclear storage.
